The Job

Our client is seeking a talented Principal Data Scientist who can contribute immediately to their team. You’ll be working in a fast-paced but casual environment with highly talented peers. Since they are still small but growing, the most successful team members are versatile, disciplined and enjoy focusing on new challenges. You will be self-motivated with a high degree of dependability and demonstrate great analytical and problem-solving skills.

Making an immediate impact:
  • Develop proof-of-concept solutions for advanced reporting or automated decision-making
  • Build statistical or machine learning models to discover actionable insights
  • Perform ad-hoc analyses and reporting for Operations and Engineering (HDFS, Spark, Impala, Kafka)
  • Monitor, tune, and extend existing data science solutions/products
  • Be a resource for the data analysis team for advanced reporting needs
  • Retrieve, clean, transform and overlay 3rd-party data
The Requirements
  • A track record of providing compelling insights based on data
  • Five years of experience in leading a team of data scientists
  • Able to identify assumptions and the limitations of mathematical models and algorithms and how it impacts reporting and decision-making
  • Make intelligent approximations and design effective mathematical models in order to make them accurate, practical and scalable
  • Solid understanding of predictive analytics, statistical modeling and data-mining (theory, algorithms and application)
  • Exceptional organizational skills, attention to detail, and ability to maintain focus in a fast-paced environment
  • Strong experience in Python, R, machine learning, statistics, Linux, business intelligence tools, advanced Microsoft Excel
  • Knowledge and experience in: Regression, Support Vector Machines, Decision Trees, Survival analysis, Clustering, Optimization, Game Theory, Stochastic Processes
  • Strong communication skills in both written and verbal form
  • Experience with SQL, "NoSQL" and "Big-Data" is desirable
