SR. GIS ANALYST

 

JOB SUMMARY

This position is responsible for creating, updating, and enhancing customer Geographic Information Systems (GIS). This includes entering new data in existing GIS programs, modifying existing data such as land base information or customer facilities, recreating as-build drawings, and performing QA/AC functions. Additionally, this position includes creating and maintaining data and/or maps that can be combined with geographically referenced data. Develop and maintain links between various data bases. Must read and interpret maps, manipulate, and understand digital land data and manage data entered a GIS database. This position works under general supervision. Relies on limited direction and must use judgment to plan and accomplish goals.


PRIMARY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Providing GIS database development, management, updates and maintenance for client gas and/or electric distribution systems
  • Trouble-shooting technical problems
  • Coordinating data conversion processes and workflow
  • Coordinating project details with project management staff
  • Performing QA/QC functions
  • Training less experienced employees as needed
  • Performing miscellaneous job-related duties as necessary


REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • GIS certification or Bachelor of Science (BS) degree in GIS related discipline
  • Moderate proficiency with ESRI ArcGIS or GE SmallWorld for map creation and data management, and Microsoft OfficeBasic proficiency of AutoCAD Civil 3D and/or AutoCAD Map 3DFour plus years of GIS experience preferably in a natural gas or electric utility environment
  • Specific experience associated with the development and maintenance of gas and/or electric utility/transmission GIS databases, including database administration to support the utility GIS Network Connectivity Model is a plus
  • Strong work ethic with desire to work in a production environment

 

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

  • Must possess ability to work in a standard office setting and to use standard office equipment, including a computer, and to attend meetings at various sites within and away from the Firm; must also be able to work at a desk for long periods of time (2-3 hours); strength to lift and carry materials weighing up to 25 pounds; vision to read printed materials and a computer screen; and hearing and speech to communicate in person and over the telephone.
