VP Controller (PE and Fund Accounting)

Position Description

Publicly traded Asset Management firm that investments in traditional investment management (equity raises, debt issuances and opportunistic M&A) and Operating Companies is seeking an accomplished finance and accounting professional who will be responsible for overseeing the accounting, reporting, and compliance operations for the firm’s private equity funds and management company. This individual will report to the group CFO of the firm. This is an excellent opportunity, with plenty of room for advancement, for an individual who wants to get involved in multiple aspects of the firm’s operations and management.


Primary responsibilities include:

Fund responsibilities:

  • Oversee the fund accounting operations and be primary point of contact with the Fund Administrator, including quarterly and annual fund financial statement reporting
  • With the Fund Administrator, manage the calculation, posting, and tracking of capital call and distribution notifications
  • Quarterly Distributions – Work in conjunction with the management team and fund administration team to determine quarterly distributions and collection of funds for distributions, while communicating with partners on timing and amounts to be distributed and ensuring all distributions are sent out as timely as possible
  • Oversee the calculation of income allocations and distributions in accordance with the waterfall mechanics outlined in the funds’ partnership agreements
  • Coordinate, initiate and track payment of fund fees and expenses
  • Management of audit process and timely support of independent auditors
  • Manage annual federal and state tax compliance with third-party tax advisors
  • Fund-level budgeting, forecasting, and performance tracking
  • Assist Investor Relations function, including responding to LP inquiries, quarterly reports, confirmations, investor presentations and due diligence questionnaires etc.
  • Support investment activity (deal closings and realizations), including treasury function support
  • Manage banking and oversee all treasury functions of the funds
  • Review, evaluate and maintain internal control system to ensure accuracy of records and recommend improvements to safeguard the company’s assets
  • Oversee and monthly reconciliation of cash activities in preparation of quarterly distributions
  • Developing relationships with all outside vendors including accounting, fund administrator, legal, insurance, and other service providers to accomplish all required projects
  • In charge of renewal of entity registrations
  • Compliance with credit facility requirements


Management Company responsibilities:

  • Management and oversight of the accounting and financial reporting of the management company, including overseeing and reviewing the preparation of budgets, forecasts, and cash flows
  • Oversee and perform monthly reconciliation of cash activities
  • Oversee all accounts payable, including tracking of fund expenses vs. management company expenses
  • Oversee Payroll processing and administrative duties relating this matter
  • Manage all treasury functions of the management company
  • Coordinate the wire instructions for processing and then, initiate and review wire transfers
  • Manage annual federal and state tax compliance with third-party tax advisors
  • Special projects alongside the leadership team
  • In charge of renewal of entity registrations


Qualifications

  • CPA required
  • 5-8 years of alternative investment firm (e.g. real estate, private equity, venture capital, etc.) experience with partnership accounting and tax
  • Professional maturity and unquestioned high integrity; sound judgement
  • Highly collaborative individual who is a self-starter with the ability to multi-task and prioritize among competing demands; ability to wear multiple hats and be both a “thinker” and a “doer”
  • Desire to contribute to the building of a successful firm, resourcefulness, initiative, and a can-do attitude
  • Excellent Microsoft Excel skills
